                                                     INDIO TRAIL - The Vision

The Creek, Yuchi, Choctaw, Seminole, Cherokee and other Tribal People were removed from this
land where we now make our home - the mountains of North Georgia. They were not just removed from this land.. they were also removed from their past... the places of their Ancestors. It is said
that one can not go forward in a good way until they know of where they came. The stories are
still passed on by a few of this... their mother-land. But, for the majority of the people removed to Oklahoma, this place is no more than a picture in a page of their history book. The People we have
been able to bring here who are descended from this place and from the Ancestors whose Spirits are still so strong here.... they have been overwhelmed by seeing, touching, and feeling this land.

We have been actively involved in educational programs locally and across North America for many years. We are now able to offer more extensive workshops locally and are actively seeking donations and contributions to assist with even more programs and gatherings. We arrange for visits to the mounds, the rock effigies, and other places sacred to the Indigenous People from this area. Bringing in facilitators for subjects ranging from Native Art to herbs and medicines. We also provide trainings on subjects ranging from the study of non-native spiritual beliefs to the various cultures of our global community. In the Talking Circles we discuss these viewpoints in a respectful way - learning from one another the impact and changes we experience as a result of our connection with one another -  our shared history - and our shared environment.

Tema Tiger was Seminole and Creek mix. His wife... Hazel.. was Yuchi. They were my mentors.. teachers. I miss them greatly. Several years ago Tema and Hazel came to  visit us in these mountains. As Tema took in the view from Sunrise Ridge.. he remarked “Now I know why the Master made these mountains.. now I understand why our stories tell of their power and beauty.” As if to bless the Tigers visit to these mountains, a Golden Eagle flew by us on the day they returned to Oklahoma.

We talked of the beauty of this place and the need for change and unity in all people. Whatever it takes in order for us to remember that we are truly all related. A time for learning of the past... sure... but also a time for healing. A circle that is open to all people with a special welcome to those who were removed so long ago. An opportunity to return.. and to hear the voices in wind.. to come together.

INDIO Trail is a thread in the blanket of healing and hope.
